Just as jewelry is the finishing touch to a woman’s outfit, door knobs and other decorative hardware are the bling that can bring your home’s decor from fine to fantastic. While the local home store has plenty of serviceable options, choosing special cabinet hardware and stylish new features for your doors and drawers can make a real difference. At ICFF 2016, we saw many options that were artistic and amazing. Take your pick at some of the most beautiful ornaments and exquisite door hardware and find the inspiration you need for a stunning and personalized home decor.
One of our favorites is Handle the Art. Designer and owner Gail Folwell is a contemporary monument bronze artist and each of her pulls and handles are small sculptural masterpieces. Her inspiration comes from the human figure.
A wide selection of cool modern decorative hardware is available through FSB — Franz Schneider Brakel. The company’s descriptor “Getting a grip on architecture: It’s in your hands” is a creative way to stress that their hardware is architecturally design forward, and “architecture meets ‘handle culture.’”
Knockout Knobs creates custom knobs, pulls and handles for cabinetry and furniture, using 3D technology to print metal knobs and hardware. Using 3D printing technology eliminates casting and molds. Whether you want your monogram, a company logo or some other image, you can have knobs like no other.
Jewelry designer Marion Cage branched out into decorative hardware and accessories for the home. She has a passion for materials and likes to combine them in unexpected ways. We think her gorgeous pulls resemble dangling earrings.
Branches and organic forms populate the collection of Philip Watts Design, a design and build team that works out of Nottingham, UK. In a 2015 interview, Watts noted that “door handles are an overlooked interior object. People often forget to spend time looking at them…Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi once said ‘God is in the detail,” and he was right. It is for me: it;s all about the details.”
In 1992, builder Robert Commons founded Sun Valley Bronze in Hailey, Idaho because he could not find the decorative hardware he wanted for the fine homes and custom cabinetry he was building. Once he deicide to cast his own designs, the rest is history. The business is still family owned and produces durable, fabulous bronze designs.
Waterworks may be known for designing and creating world-class bath and kitchen fixtures (and accessories) but at the recent ICFF 2016 we were most taken with the variety and designs of their decorative hardware selection. From leather handles to modern bathroom knobs and traditional style pulls, the options presented would be great for updating an exiting bathroom.
This sampling of designer decorative hardware is a far cry from what you’ll find in the average home store and for good reason: Just like jewelry, the difference between costume jewelry and fine gems and precious metals makes all the difference in the world. It’s more of an investment, but carefully chosen hardware can make a serious difference in the look of your room.
